Tales of the Aswang is a narrative experience for Apple Vision Pro inspired by Filipino oral mythology. Through a series of intimate creature encounters, it explores how legendary beings from Philippine folklore reflect deeply human stories of fear, family, survival, longing, and transformation.
Rather than simply retelling old myths, the project reimagines them through emotional, character-driven stories set in both familiar and surreal worlds. Each encounter reveals how these creatures are tied not only to folklore, but to memory, identity, and the struggles people carry within themselves.
Inspired by the writings of Maximo Ramos and by stories passed down through generations, Tales of the Aswang brings Filipino mythology into a new immersive form for a new audience.
Created by Paolo Villanueva at Parsons School of Design in New York City, the project has continued to grow with the help of developers and designers across the United States, Canada, South Korea, and the Philippines.

The sound used in the game was composed using traditional Filipino instruments from the islands of Mindanao, Visayas, and Luzon coupled with modern strings and piano.
